In 2004 the band formed in Jonnie Russell apartment above the restaurant Mulberry St. Ristorante which would later become the name of their first E.P.
Cold War Kids then fled and nested in L.A and began putting tracks down for there first E.P under the watchful eye of Monarchy Music the label they had recently signed to. This led to the band touring full on throughout 2005 – 2006 earning themselves a new deal with Downtown Records, the home of Gnarls Barkley and Art Brut, with whom they released their LP Robbers & Coppers.
This Excessive Touring lead to a huge online buzz about the band and word soon spread which lead to them supporting bands such as Two Gallants, Tapes ‘n Tapes, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Sound Team, Muse and The White Stripes.
The Band credit Bob Dylan, Velvet Underground and Jeff Beckley and Radiohead as their biggest influences. They proved their admiration of Radiohead by recording a cover of ‘Electioneering’, which Nathan Willett was quoted saying “It’s lyrically everything we want to do – bursts of concrete imagery.”
Cold War Kids have gone on to play several sold outs shows, one been London’s Bloomsbury Ballroom and the legendary London Astoria and also releasing another fantastic album Loyalty to Loyalty.
The band are in the middle of a 31 date tour with many music lovers enjoying the amazing live shows they put on.
If its their first time going to see Cold War Kids they are going to be taught a lesson in music education they will never forget with ‘Hang Me Up To Dry’ and ‘We Used To Vacation’ becoming the song to send goose bumps into a frenzy every time the first few notes are heard.
